Active Culture, Natural Foods Café and Yogurt, is the creation of a local family determined to offer our community a healthy food alternative. We opened the doors of our first shop November 2010 in a charming Spanish style building in the heart of Laguna Beach, CA.  The community of Laguna Beach has been nothing shy of amazing and each year we continue to grow and expand our menu offering creative, unique and delicious foods.

After 3 great years in Laguna Beach, we realized one of our other favorite cities was in need of an Active Culture, so we decided to open a shop in downtown San Clemente in November of 2013.

At Active Culture we strive to represent the unique culture of south Orange County the best way we know how – by providing our clientele with healthy, organic, basic, and delectable food at affordable prices. As a family owned business, we strive to focus on the little things that often get lost in today’s busy lifestyle, like getting to know our customers and community, offering foods that are both wholesome and quick, and consistently deliver excellent service!

We are committed to taking an active role towards helping our environment and minimizing our carbon footprint. All of our frozen yogurt cups, bowls, napkins, cups, forks and spoons are 100% biodegradable and compostable and we strongly support local, organic, and sustainable vendors.

We value the active culture in these beautiful communities, and hope that in time you’ll grow to trust us. At Active Culture we are passionate about the food we serve. We believe that you can live healthier, live longer and live happier by putting better foods into your body. We use whole grains, simple basic foods, organic ingredients and fresh fruits and vegetables. We have put extensive thought and care into our menu items to create unique delicious foods that will fuel your body and soul. If you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, soy-free, raw, cleansing or simply looking for food that is not over processed or filled with chemicals, dyes or hydrogenated oils then you have come to the right place!

Organic Brown Rice or Organic Quinoa

The base of our hot bowls either consists of organic brown rice or organic quinoa. Whole grains are important part of any diet and have often been labeled the healthiest grains that anybody can eat. Both brown rice and quinoa are gluten-free, high in dietary fiber and protein. Organic brown rice is dense in natural nutrition and the perfect fuel to power us through our busy day. Quinoa is high in minerals and it has a low ratio of carbohydrates to protein that helps regulate blood sugar and for this reason is considered to be good for diabetics.

Organic Red and Black Beans

At Active Culture we love beans and lentils! We believe these are an under used and undervalued protein source. Among all groups of food commonly eaten worldwide, no group has a more health-supportive mix of protein-plus-fiber than legumes. From a single, one-cup serving of black beans you get nearly 15 grams of fiber and 15 grams of protein (nearly one third of the Daily Value and equivalent to the amount in 2 ounces of a meat). You won’t find this outstanding protein-fiber combination in fruit, vegetables, grains, meats, dairy products, nuts and seeds, or seafood.

Steamed Lentils

Lentils, a small but nutritionally mighty member of the legume family, are loaded with fiber, folate, iron, protein, and other vitamins and minerals. Lentils are a nutritional fountain of youth and a very good source of cholesterol-lowering fiber. Lentils are also a great food for diabetics because the high fiber content prevents blood sugar levels from rising rapidly after a meal. But this is far from all that entils have to offer. Lentils also provide good to excellent amounts of six important minerals, two B-vitamins, and protein—all with virtually no fat.

Our Homemade Raw, and Organic Almond Milk

Our Almond milk is simple and delicious. We use no added sugars or artificial ingredients. Made fresh every day, it’s simply raw organic almonds and raw organic agave nectar…packed with flavor, protein and “good fats”.

Our Coconut Based Shakes

Our coconut based shakes are made with an organic, vegan, soy and gluten free frozen base and organic homemade almond milk. The concept behind our shakes is simple and pure — serve our customers shakes that are just as satisfying and tasty as traditional shakes, without the health impacts of ice cream and sugar or for that matter, soy. They are wholesome and delicious! Coconut is highly nutritious and rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. While its natural richness creates a creamy texture, the fat in coconut milk is considered to be a “good fat”, it is quickly metabolized and turned into energy to fuel your body!
